The Epilepsy Foundation of Central & South Texas prides itself on providing the latest and most accurate information about epilepsy to the general public. The Epilepsy Foundation offers educational programs for a variety of audiences throughout its service area. Our newsletter is published three times a year and is full of information about epilepsy and our foundation.


H.O.P.E. Mentoring Program

H.O.P.E. Mentoring Program  is a program that enables people with epilepsy to educate others and share in their life experiences. This program is an innovative educational initiative, which utilizes the personal experience of persons affected by epilepsy. Presentations by H.O.P.E. Mentors are available at no charge.

 

Be Seizure Smart

This free in-service training program for education and childcare professionals includes:

  • A presentation on seizure disorders, including causes, incidence, and treatment options.
  • Seizure first aid training, including video footage of different types of seizures and the proper response to each.
  • Tips for including children with seizure disorders in regular school activities and helping other children understand the child with epilepsy.
  • Handouts with information about how to recognize and respond to various types of seizures.

Civic & Community Groups

Informational presentations, offered at no cost, are available on:

  • Seizure recognition and first aid.
  • The social and economic impact of epilepsy in the United States.
  • The services of the Epilepsy Foundation of Central & South Texas.
  • Other topics of interest to the group requesting a presentation.

Businesses

Information and presentations about seizure disorders are available at no cost to businesses. Presentations include:

  • An overview of seizure disorders, including incidence, causes, seizure triggers, and treatment options.
  • An exploration of myths surrounding epilepsy.
  • Proper handling of seizures.

Epilepsy Education for Social Service Providers

Free in-service trainings for professionals who work with people with seizure disorders. Programs topics include seizure recognition and first aid, seizures in special populations, and information about medications, surgery, and the Vagus Nerve Stimulator.

Epilepsy Education for Health Professionals

The latest information about new treatments, medications, and advances in epilepsy research is available to medical professionals at no cost. 

The Kids on the Block Puppet Troupe

A creative approach to epilepsy education geared for 2nd through 5th grade students. Puppets discuss first aid and dispel myths about epilepsy. Each performance is FREE and lasts approximately 25 minutes. It is a great health presentation.

At this time we do not have personnel to conduct this program. If you are interested in volunteering to be a "puppeteer" please contact staff@efcst.org

Conferences & Displays

From time to time, the Epilepsy Foundation of Central & South Texas hosts conferences or seminars, or offers educational displays about epilepsy in libraries, at community services fairs, or in other public forums. Check the Events Calendar for information about these as they occur.

This packet contains literature designed to educate school professionals about children with seizures, including important tips on providing first aid for seizures in the classroom.

Students with Seizures: A Manual for School Nurses
