"Courage" by: ladyrockjock
The first time I had a seizure was in May of 2002. My mom was getting ready to leave for a company party. I was walking her out to the car when I hit the ground like a load of bricks and had 3 grand mal seizures right after one another and then stopped breathing. She hollered for my dad to call 911 and then they both came running in. The paramedics treated it as though it were a trauma, given the fact that I'd never had a seizure before, and it could have been caused by head injury. The only thing I remember after the seizure happened was waking up with a ton of doctors around me asking lots of question, none of which I understood. Immediately thereafter I had another seizure, so they gave me ativan and sent me off to CT. I didn't wake up until 2 days later in the hospital. Since then, I've gone through a 2 week video EEG until I had a seizure from no meds and sleep deprivation, MRI's, numerous CT's, and ambulatory EEG's. Being 17 and having your license taken away is horrible, not to mention the special accomodations they had to make at school and work. It's been rough, but I've developed a new outlook on life and gained courage along the way to keep fighting.
