"positive thinking!"
  by: Hattie Hat

I had my first epileptic fit on the 3rd of September 2002. I am 13. My parents sent me to bed early because I felt weird/ill. About an hour later my parents heard a large bang and rushed upstairs, they found me face down on the floor with my face covered with blood. My mum tried to talk to me but I was unconscious and apparently not breathing. My dad phoned an ambulance and I was taken to hospital immediately. My parents were very worried. A doctor came round the next morning and said I probably had epilepsy. I was very worried but decided that I had to cope. Since then I have had two seizures: one absence and one tonic-clonic. I have had an EEG which showed nothing and a sleep-deprived EEG which showed an abnormality in the right temporal lobe. My epilepsy is said to never go away so I will probably be on drugs for the rest of my life. Next I have an MRI. The thing im most scared about is telling my friends, I don't know how to tell them. I think that all the people out there with epilepsy should never give up and not let it beat them. Get on top of the problem and rule it - don't let it rule you!!
