"How Did It Happen"
  by: emerald

I was diagnosed with epilepsy last year. It was about 4 or 5 days after my 14th birthday. It was in the morning and I was in the bathroom taking my shower. The next thing I know I wake up in an ambulance. I hear the paramedics say 14 year old girl had a seizure. I was so scared my mom wasn't in the ambulance with me because they wouldn't let her ride with me. I was taken to a hospital room and my mom came in a little later. She was a nervous wreck. She was crying and asking me if I was okay. I was alright but my back burned bad. The nurse looked at it and I had 2nd degree burns on my back. My mom guessed it happened in the shower. I stayed in the hospital room for a few hours while friends & family came in and made sure I was okay. I went home and they just thought it was a random thing until it happened again. I then was sent to a neurologist and had an EEG. They were sure I had epilepsy. I now take medication and am 15. I haven't been seizure free for a year and I can't drive yet. The doctors don't know what caused it and I just try to live a happy teenage life. I don't get to do some things I like but that's okay.
