Fighting Against Discrimination

The Foundation has long been an advocate for civil rights. Even in today's society, a person with epilepsy is not guaranteed equality. The Epilepsy Foundation advocates promoting effective implementation and enforcement of civil rights laws in the following ways:

• We work to educate legislators, civil rights organizations, the judiciary and law enforcement agencies on epilepsy-related civil rights issues.
  
  
• Oppose legislative or regulatory efforts to weaken the American with Disabilities Act, the Rehabilitation Act Amendments of 1998, the Family Medical Leave Act and other legislation offering important civil rights protections to people with epilepsy.
  
  
• Support legislation that prohibits discrimination based on genetic information.

Your Legal Rights

People with epilepsy face certain difficulties ranging from driver's licensing to employment. Laws are in place that can help to combat some of this injustice. We offer an overview of legal issues that may arise for a person with epilepsy in today's society.
